Christmas with the Cardinals
12″ x 12″ Acrylic on canvas
I admire so the person who first named this bird The Cardinal. It is so befitting to connect the bird with the Cardinals in their red robes in Rome. Just from looks alone, the bird exudes confidence, alertness and a don’t-mess-with-me attitude. The snow backdrop was a picture from my garden during Portland’s last blizzard. As many people realize we don’t have Cardinals in the West coast but the first thing that came to mind was how beautiful a contrast would be if I were to put a pair of them in this winter painting. Life is not fair for the female Cardinal as with all female birds, the male comes out better looking. But nevertheless, she does have a nice warm brown color on her.
