Red Lantern Lane     SOLD

12″ x 12″

black ink on clayboard

This is a painting of an old lane in a village in Sichuan province.  To the Chinese, red is an auspicious color and red lanterns are symbols of good fortune and that is why every house hangs up a new lantern on Chinese New Year.  It stays up for the whole year and a few days before the new year ends, a new one is hung up to replace the old.
